Business Problem

Our client, a volunteer-based non-profit organization, required a solution to facilitate communication between teachers and attendees for their meditation events. They sought a rich user experience with features that would enable teachers to contact attendees via call and SMS. Solution

To address the client's needs, we designed and implemented a comprehensive solution leveraging Salesforce and Twilio APIs. Here's how we approached the challenge:

Evaluation of Twilio APIs: Upon analyzing the requirements, we recognized the limitations of using Salesforce AppExchange apps for this specific need. As a result, we evaluated and opted to utilize Twilio APIs, a powerful communication platform.

Lightning Web Component for User Interface: We developed a custom Lightning Web Component that provided a rich user interface for teachers to initiate calls or send SMS messages to event attendees. This component offered a seamless and intuitive user experience.

Backend Integration with Apex Callouts: Using Apex, Salesforce's programming language, we integrated the Lightning Web Component with Twilio APIs. When a teacher initiated a call or SMS, we made appropriate callouts to Twilio's APIs to enable the desired communication channel.

4.

Error Logging for Failure Handling: To handle any potential failures during the communication process, we implemented an error log object. This allowed us to log and track any errors encountered, facilitating easier debugging and troubleshooting.

Tracking for Reporting Purposes: We incorporated functionality to track all calls and SMS messages initiated from within Salesforce. This feature provided valuable insights for reporting purposes, enabling the client to analyze customer behavior and event participation.

Challenges

While implementing the solution, we faced several challenges, primarily due to the absence of third-party tools for making calls or sending SMS messages. However, our experienced team overcame these obstacles by leveraging Twilio APIs and devising effective architecture and failure handling mechanisms.
